Learn by doing.
Consider the apparent paradox:
Not everything can be taught, but everything can be learned.
Consider self-awareness. You can be explained what self-awareness is, how to engage in mindfulness to truly understand your own thoughts, emotions, and mental patterns, but knowing that isn't enough to give rise to self-awareness. You must learn by doing.
Think of your job. So much of what we do day to day for work is not taught in schools or in books. We figure it out as we go.
It is the same with understanding the nature of the mind and recognizing your true nature. You can read books, listen to podcasts, do all the things, but if you don't do the work you will never really understand.
The work gives rise to knowledge that is beyond the conceptual sphere.
But what is even more interesting is that once you do have this knowledge through your own experience, you can build on top of it. You can carry this insight into your relationships, your work, your daily life.
We pursue knowledge to understand who we are, the world around us, and our place in it. Some of this knowledge gets passed down through education and culture, but some of the most important parts have to be learned by doing.
